Once upon a time there were two fun loving, party girls called Felicity and Fleur who between them had enough shoes to build a bridge across the Thames.
One night after a particularly good party involving much dancing, the normally glamorous girls found themselves hobbling along the road like a pair of old women, desperately searching for a taxi. On and on they walked until their trotters were throbbing so much that they had to commit the ultimate girl sin and walk bare foot on the cold, dirty pavement.
Surely there must be a solution? Something that would mean they could still party, still wear fabulous shoes and not have to worry about trying to squeeze a spare pair of shoes into a tiny bag...? They searched high and low but couldn't find anything :-(
"Enough is enough!" they thought and right then and there, on the paving slabs from hell the idea for Feet Fairies was born!
A few months later, with a bit of help from some friends, a lot of hard work and some inspirational words form Richard Branson's 'Screw it Just Do It' Feet Fairies Ltd launched. The rest as they say is history...
Shoe designer Kate Cann is currently embarking on her final year at London College of Fashion. She has been working in the footwear industry on a year out from study, and her designs have been produced for global companies and major high street brands. She is continuing to freelance over the next year whilst studying and has some major projects coming up for everyone to enjoy!
Kate has always had a passionate creative streak and started her training with a BND in Art and Design. She specialised in 3D Product design, splitting her focus between the fashion and problem solving sections of the course, developing her work combining fabrics with metals, woods and plastics. Having completed the BND, she went on to do a Foundation course at London College of Fashion to give her a more fashion focused portfolio before commencing with her degree. She covers all processes of footwear design, right from initial design ideas through to marketing. Kate counts her main inspirations from the simplicity and timeless style of Coco Chanel through to the extravagance of Vivienne Westwood.
Kate was approached by Feet Fairies in 2007 with a brief to come up with a design for lightweight, foldable pumps and to source suitable materials. The pumps had to be cute, light and practical and come in at under £10 retail price. A tall order! Since then Kate has been working with Feet Fairies to develop the design and range helping to save the soles of women all over the country.
Thanks Kate!
